Winning Pitcher- Tommy Baryo (2-1)  Losing Pitcher- Zach Soetmelk (0-2) Save- Brian Berendse (1)

Vermillion-  The fall season concluded on Sunday with the Championship game, between who else, but the Red team and the Gray team.   This game had all the fixings as, President extraordinaire Zach Soetmelk was able to get the field chalked, get a scoreboard, and have an announcer for the game.  For this game it always seemed like the Gray team was just one step ahead of the Red team.  Every time the Red team would get within a run, the Gray team would add one more.  The Gray team also broke it open in the fifth as they busted out four runs to build a 6-1 lead.    Red tried to respond in the fifth when Rob Galbraith hit a home run, but in the end it was not enough and Gray beat Red for the fifth time in a row 10-7.

Notes- Nick Peterson did his best to kill Red starting pitcher, Zach Soetmelk, by intentionally driving the ball into his back in the sixth.  The small and brittle Soetmelk fell to the ground, rolling around like a little girl.  The Red team was sold into slavery after their fifth loss in a row.  A sparse crowd for the championship game, as about 15 showed up.

Game 6 Thursday October 28th

Box Score

Innings 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Runs Hits Errors
Gray 3 0 2 4 0 0 2 11 7 1
Red 0 0 0 1 0 2 4 7 11 10

Winning Pitcher- Bryan Hohenthaner (2-0)  Losing Pitcher- Steven Keil (0-1)

Vermillion- On a humid night in October it seemed to be much of the same for the Gray and Red teams. The Gray team wasn't really that dominant it just seemed that the Red team was asleep. The Red team struggled with fielding from the first inning on, but it was hard when the Red team only had 8 players to take the field. There were 10 errors committed by the Red team which proved to be too costly. The Gray team continued to pile up runs until going into the 9th inning they had a 11-3 lead. Of course Brian Boyer could not be silenced as he stepped to the plate and hit his second 3 run homerun of the fall season. The Red team seemed to have something rolling as they scored four runs in the ninth but, it wouldn't be enough. The Red team again was handed a heart wrenching loss from the Gray team.

Notes- The crowd attendance was at a healthy four people. The Red team seemed to be lost as they were without there trusty and also witty coach Zach Soetmelk (I believe this was why they lost). Steven Keil threw over three thousand pitches tonight and was saddled with a complete game loss. In the fourth inning play was halted by Brian Wegman because he could not bat as a helicopter landed across the street from the ball fields. Also I would like to give props to the new guy wherever you are.

Game 5 Wednesday October 27th

 Box Score

Innings 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Runs Hits Errors
Gray 0 1 0 1 4 7 x 13 7 1
Red 0 0 0 1 0 1 x 2 5 2

Winning Pitcher- Brian Berendse (1-0)      Losing Pitcher-Mike Bormann (1-1)

Vermillion-  Gray took its third game in a row as they go on to stomp the Red team 13-2.  Walks were the sad tale that sunk the red team in this one as they allowed thirteen free passes in the game.  The game was close early on as strong pitching by Red's Mike Bormann and Gray's Brian Berndse held the score to 2-1 entering the fifth.  In the fifth and sixth the Gray team exploded for eleven runs in the two innings.  Brian Birkeland drove the dagger deap as he golfed a grand slam over the black monster in left field making the game 6-2 and putting the Red team into a deep, deep, deep depression, in which I am now seeking therapy for.  In the sixth, Brian Wegman put an exclamation point on the game as he packed the baseball's bags and sent the 2-1 fastball into the night as it cleared the trees in left,  possibly injuring a small child who happened to be playing in the park.  The game was called after six, by the rule of mercy.  These teams will meet again tomorrow.  Same bat time, Same bat channel.

Notes-  A new low in crowd attendance as only three people showed up to the game and for some reason the bleachers have been removed.  The grass needs cut, BAD.  In all actuality, no true antics went on tonight.  It almost felt like a normal baseball game. However, around the fifth a siren went of as Gray stepped to the plate. They were unable to clear the mechanism that inning. Tommy Baryo plays third?

Game 4 Monday October 25th

Box Score

Innings 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Runs Hits Errors
Red 1 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 2 6 5
Gray 0 2 0 2 0 0 5 0 x 9 10 1

Winning Pitcher- Tommy Baryo (1-1)      Losing Pitcher- Zach Soetmelk (0-1)

Vermillion- Game four between Gray and Red was played on Monday October 25.  The Red bats were kept quiet as Gray pitcher Tommy Baryo scattered five hits over seven innings while striking out seven and walking no one.  Gray also kept their bats hot as they pounded out ten hits and capitalized on five Red errors.  In a 4-2 game in the sixth, Gray got five runs to put the game out of reach.  These two teams will meet Wednesday at 5:30 PM at Prentis Park.

Notes-  Bryan Hohenthaner was unable to pinch run in the second inning as he was not yet done smoking his cigarette.  The Red team has committed nine errors in their last two games (loses) and have three in their first two (wins).  The gray team has been named for the championship game.  They are now The Anal Dwelling Butt Monkeys of Chaos as chosen by Bryan Birkeland.  Crowd attendance was fairly low around 10.  Tensions are beginning to form as people are starting to give a shit.

Game 3 Saturday October 23rd

Box Score

Innings 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Runs Hits Errors
Red 0 0 0 2 0 0 2 0 2 6 8 4
Gray 1 0 1 0 2 0 4 5 x 13 16 1

Winning Pitcher- Bryan Hohanthaner (1-0)      Losing Pitcher- Matt Sees (0-1)

Vermillion-  Gray got its first win of the fall season Saturday as they pounded out sixteen hits.  Today's game was originally scheduled for two seven inning games, but was stretched out into one nine inning game due to lack of available pitchers.  But it didn't matter who the pitcher was for this was the day of the Brians.  Bryan Birkeland, Bryan Hohenthaner, Brian Berendse, and Brian Wegman were the two through five hitters on the gray team.  These fellows created most of the offence on the day.  Of the sixteen hits the gray team had the brians had twelve.  Of gray's thirteen runs, the Brians had eleven. These two teams will meet again Monday at 5:30 PM.

Notes-  Crowd attendance was the biggest it has ever been at a club baseball game as it exceed 20.  Bryan Wegman constantly harassed pitcher Steven Keil on almost every pitch (Yes, it got pretty annoying).  Coach Soetmelk of the Red team told his team that they had 700 poles for loosing by seven.  Matt Sees apparently beat out a play at first base, and was called safe by Gray right fielder Brian Berendse, but when pressured by his teammates, changed his call to out (We all know he was safe).

Game 2 Wednesday October 20th

 Box Score

Innings 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Runs Hits Errors
Gray 1 0 0 1 2 4 0 8 4 0
Red 1 0 5 3 3 3 x 9 10 3

Winning Pitcher- Mike Bormann (1-0)      Losing Pitcher- Tommy Baryo (0-1)

Vermillion- On a cold overcast night, Red and Gray met once again.  Tonight's game was a back and forth extravaganza.  It looked as if Red was going to route again, but as you know by now you should never count out the Gray team.  Red let loose a flurry of hits in the third inning. Red built a 6-2 lead.  But Gray came storming back.  In the fifth and sixth Gray practiced watching the ball as they walked 5 times in both of those innings.  Gray captain Bryan Birkeland hit a two RBI single in the top of the 6th with two outs to give the Gray team a 8-6 lead heading into the bottom of the 6th.  But Red wouldn't let this lead last for long.  Under the threat of running 30 poles at the end of the game if they suffered a loss, Brian Boyer stepped to the plate with two on and nobody out.  Boyer got the pitch he wanted and sent it sailing over the left center wall to give the Red team a 9-8 victory, a lead they would not relinquish.

Notes- The pitch before Brian Boyer's homerun was a popup to the catcher, who dropped it (Oops!).  On a play at second rock, paper, scissors was almost used, but cooler, smarter heads prevailed.  The crowd attendance for the night was 2 people and 6 parentless kids.  At the end of the game half of the gray team refused to shake hands with the Red team, sighting that the Red team were "Cheating Bastards."

Game 1 Monday October 18th

Box Score

Innings 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Runs Hits Errors
Gray 1 0 0 0 1 2 3 6 7 2
Red 0 0 0 3 3 1 x 7 5 0

Winning Pitcher- David Watson (1-0)      Losing Pitcher- Kyle Jensen (0-1)    Save- Josh Berndt (1)

Vermillion- On October 18, 2004 the USD baseball club had its first game of its young life.  The game was between the only two teams in the league Gray verse Red.  Gray got on the board early in the first when Bryan Hohenthaner hit a single to drive in Dan Condon.  Then the game was virtually scoreless as Gray pitcher Brian Berendse threw a perfect three innings.  Red took control of the game in the fourth and fifth as Red scored 6 in the two innings.  By the 7th, it looked as though Red was going to route the Gray team, but Gray came storming back with five in the last two innings.  However, it was not enough as Red did just enough to hold on in a 7-6 win.  These two teams will face each other again Wednesday October 20th at 5:30 PM.

Notes- In the first game of the young fall season there was a record crowd attendance of 12.  In the first time in baseball history rock, paper, scissors was used on a very crucial play at the plate.  Gray got a run with two outs in the7th in that rock, paper, scissors match to make the score 7-6.  Michael Dashner dazzled the crowd and players with is knowledge of random facts as he constantly quizzed the visiting bench from his right field post.
